Keep your car log book by hand, from the dash

No tracking needed. Tap Start Shift with the odometer reading, drive, and tap End Shift with the closing one. The distance is the span between your two readings, so it is worked out rather than typed, and every shift goes straight into your car log book.

The Mileage screen in RyeDC with automatic mileage off: business use so far, and the dash reading ready for Start Shift

A shift is an odometer span

Two readings off the dash, a start and an end, and the app does the arithmetic. Open a shift and set where it ended: your logbook prints that suburb as the journey's destination, which is all the ATO asks for. A business shift carries a reason, yours or the default you chose.

A shift you started and never ended stays open, so end it even if you have to correct the reading afterwards. While a shift is open, automatic tracking pauses so the same driving is not recorded twice.

A shift in RyeDC: when and where it started and ended, the odometer at each end, the distance and the reason for the journey

Forgot to start one?

Tap Start Shift and End Shift with the two readings, then open the shift from History and set its start and end times. Any shift, drive or odometer reading can be opened from History to change or delete it. For a week after an entry is recorded you can correct it freely; after that the change is listed in your logbook, as the ATO expects.

One history for everything

History is one list of everything recorded for the car, newest first: shifts you typed, drives the app detected and odometer readings you took. Filter it to Drives or Shifts, and tap any row to open it.

If a shift's hours contain detected drives, the shift is flagged. That is not an error: the same driving may be recorded twice, once by you and once by the app. Both are counted, the report says so above the total, and you delete or edit whichever record is wrong. Nothing quietly subtracts one from the other, because only you know which is right.

Update odometer

Enter what your dash reads now, every few weeks. It keeps the app's figures and your dash in agreement, and it is the reading a logbook needs at each end of the year. While your year has no opening reading, the Mileage screen asks for one.

Shifts and detected drives, side by side

Turn on automatic mileage and shifts keep working: Add a shift manually shows the same two buttons. The mileage report and the logbook count shifts and drives in their own sections, then together, with any overlap noted above the total.

The Help covers it step by step: Recording a shift by hand.
